Ama Sea Beauty: Clean, Sustainably-Made, and Woman-Owned Skincare

I’m so excited to share one of my favorite skincare brands with you, Ama Sea Beauty. Not only do I love the products themselves, I’m also a big fan because I am collaborating with the seaweed farmers the brand works with for my own seaweed business, Pull To Refresh. We are working together to grow seaweed sustainably to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

Founded by climate activist Antoinette Marquez, Ama Sea Beauty offers skincare that is healthy for humans and the planet. Everything from the ingredients to the packaging is carefully thought through and beautifully made.

Ama Sea Beauty’s Brand Mission

Ama Sea Beauty is an eco-friendly skincare brand named after the Ama Divers of Japan – the majority of whom are women – known for collecting pearls on their dives. Ama translates to “woman of the sea” – a worthy name for the daring divers. The name is appropriate since Ama Sea is woman-owned and utilizes ingredients from the sea.

Ama Sea Beauty is dedicated to providing quality products that extend longevity, using wild-grown Californian seaweeds. The nutrient-rich algae is hand-picked by Marquez herself. She’s a seaweed specialist and certified Thalasso therapist. With over 50 years of experience in diet, wellness, and health, she personally ensures that Ama Sea products are of the best quality.

The brand is dedicated to using ethically-sourced ingredients. The products are free of animal testing and their packaging is completely recyclable, not to mention beautiful! Ama Sea is skincare for all, regardless of gender.

Ama Sea Beauty’s Commitment to the Planet

Since Ama Sea Beauty’s products depend on healthy ingredients from the ocean, the company understands that they also have a critical responsibility to care for sea life. The Ama Sea line is a consumer product from PharmerSea seaweed consulting company.

PharmerSea is an organization that supports coastal conservation and restorative ocean farming. Marquez herself is an ocean conservationist and works to protect Santa Barbara’s kelp forest. Ama Sea Beauty is part of the BLUE economy, meaning it allows consumers to take part in ocean stewardship, all by purchasing these responsibly developed goods.

PharmerSea offers expert assistance to other sea farmers. Through their services they help others foster regenerative entrepreneurship, with a goal of long-term sustainability. Not only do they create environmentally responsible products within their own company, but they actively help others do the same.

High-Quality Ingredients

Ama Sea’s products start with wild, California-grown seaweeds that are nutrient-rich and harvested at the peak of their season. The seaweeds are then rinsed and sundried, so they remain mineral-dense. The rest of their ingredients are responsibly sourced as well. A few key ingredients include:

  • Alginate: Offers antioxidants and other anti-aging ingredients which soften and hydrate skin.
  • Brown seaweed/kelp extract: Macrocystis Pyrifera can slow down aging as it contains iodine, fucoidan, fucoxanthin, and polysaccharides.
  • Butterfly pea flower: An Ayurveda herb that fights glycation (protein damage from sugar molecules.)
  • Chlorella: Nutrient-rich and can help remove toxins and improve cholesterol.
  • Diatomaceous earth: Silica found in this ingredient helps produce and maintain collagen.
  • Matcha: Reduces inflammation and exfoliates away dead skin cells.
  • Pearl powder: Contains 30 trace minerals that promote collagen production and offer antimicrobial benefits.
